Looker Studio > Charts Guide > Area Charts

An Area Chart is best used to show the distribution of categories as parts of a whole changing over an interval. As the area inside the chart is plotted to convey whole numbers, an Area Chart does not work for negative values.

  • In this chart, we display Users Type by weekday, and data are aggregated by weekday for the selected period.

  • Left Y-Axis plotted individually on each interval, date in this example for New and Returning Visitors

  • [Breakdown Dimension] — Area Chart must have a Breakdown Dimension, in this example, User Type
